THE SPEECH MECHANISM
and how it is produced
We need air to speak....the air comes from the lungs and moves through the throat into the oral and nasal cavities. As the air travels through the throat, the vocal cords vibrate to produce sound. When the air passes through the oral and nasal cavities the tongue and lips move to articulate sounds.
MOTOR SPEECH DISORDERS
MoWhen speech is not produced clearly due to weak musculature,
it is called Dysarthria
When speech is not produced clearly because
the brain is not telling the mouth how to sequence sounds correctly,
it is called Apraxia
